Art Studios in Asheville, at the River Arts District, provides one of the most unique experiences in this city. The creation of art and the life of artists is mysterious and romantic. For 2 wonderful weekends every year, the River District Artists open their art studios in Asheville and give us the opportunity to satisfy our curiosity about how art is created. During these weekends (Studio Stroll) the artists open the doors of their working studios and invite the public in.
This is on my list of favorite events. The art is great, the artists and their studios are spiffed up and ready to meet the public. It is a privilege to peek into this world – and there is always great energy for these occasions.
The River Art District Studio Stroll, the second weekends in June and November, is well worth marking on your calendars so that you don’t miss it. If those time are not possible, stop by Fridays and Saturdays, you’ll find many of the studios open.
About 15 years ago artists and craftsmen began breathing life into this virtually abandoned warehouse area.
Sandwiched between the French Broad River and the railroad tracks, the River District has become an energetic and revitalized part of Asheville with 100+ artists, restaurants and cafes, galleries and housing.
Every year it grows – the number of artists participating, the cafes and restaurants open, performers, bands, a trolley to carry you easily up and down the River to the warehouse studios.
The art studios in Asheville are one of the best ways to get a sense of the energy of this city. Be sure to go to the River Arts District website for more information, and take a look at my slides below from the recent Studio Stroll. This is a wonderful place to buy Asheville Art directly from the artists and visit their studios where the talent flows beside The French Broad River.

Nan,
This work is wonderful. If the guy in the picture with you is YOUR guy, he looks and must be great! Lunch after the holidays would be fun. Where is your daily worksite so that I can come near to you for lunch? Happy Holidays!
I saw Lena Strickland’s Mother at a luncheon in Atlanta. Mrs. Strickland said that Lena is still battling her lymphoma. She was trying another new drug the very day of our luncheon. I was just delighted to make contact with Lena through her Mother.
No new news from Presbyterian.
