The late summer, Asheville Goombay Festival, brings a variety of entertainment to downtown. African-American dancers and vendors lining the streets with food and merchandise – and some of what you’ll enjoy is steel drums.

Goombay! emerged during slavery days in Bermuda.  Both music and rhythm were brought from Africa and the West Indies.

This festival is a wonderful addition to summer activities in downtown Asheville.
