Asheville and Indie music fans love, Stephanie’s Id.
Energetic. Inspired. Intense. Spontaneous…and very serious about their music – and having a good time on stage.
Asheville’s live music scene can always depend on Stephanie’s Id to draw a crowd of loyal fans wherever they play. We’ve voted them the best Indie Music Band for 3 years in a row.
Those are some of the things I’ve thought about them since seeing them perform at the Grey Eagle Music Hall, Asheville. I wanted to know more so the band let Steve and I sit in as they rehearsed to cut a new CD, titled Fore! which they will release mid-April 2009. We met them at a recording studio about 9PM one night. They carried in equipment and set up to polish their music for the new album.
We could tell that the band is comfortable together – in fact Chuck (Lichtenberger) said later after the album was cut that this is the first recording where they had band members that had been together for so long, and that made the recording process easier.
Too much rehearsal could inhibit spontaneity – and Stephanie Morgan who crafts the lyrics, likes to let the song figure out what it wants to say, often with the lyrics beginning as nonsense sounds.
Stephanie and Chuck talk with me one on one about their music and the process of writing and performing and parts of that interview are on the video.
Stephanie’s Id tours nationally and they are big supporters of the local Asheville music scene. One of their favorite projects is Pop Asheville – a truly unique Asheville music experience.
It is a weekend-long 30+ band indie pop music festival held at multiple centralized locations in Asheville, NC. It is a fun event with a variety of music and venues. Lazoom bus takes you to the different locations – and LaZoom is an experience in itself.

Thanks – it was fun! A very talented band – and Stephanie Morgan is helping put together Pop Asheville which is a definite recommendation.
Great viseo work I love the jam and practice mixed together, it really let you see hpow much creative effort and flow they have to their music.
