Asheville beer at Jack of the Wood

Asheville beer at Jack of the Wood – feels like a cozy neighborhood bar – well, actually it is a neighborhood bar in downtown Asheville.  This is one of our favorite places – for after work, or evening – and one of the places we consistently find friends, good music, food, and… Asheville beer.

Jack’s is a Celtic style pub and they handcraft English style ales and serve them fresh daily – they are the home of Green Man Ales which they brew at their nearby brewing facility.

There is lots going on at Jack’s and their commitment to good music makes this place stand out.  Sunday evenings they have Irish music played by any musician who wants to join in – fiddles, bagpipes, drums – it is really is wonderful.  The music is unplugged so you can enjoy the music and also enjoy a conversation with your friends.

Monday night is the game – Quizzo, Wednesdays is Old Time Jam, Thursday is Bluegrass Jam, and Friday and Saturdays is a mix of great music – all kinds, country, bluegrass, soul, rock n roll.  The weekend cover charge is very reasonable – usually $8 – $15.

The food is good, English Pubstyle – fish and chips, Guiness stew – and the usual wings, burgers, nachos.

Back to the beer – which is what they are well known for – they offer a unque and distinctive style of ales that use English and Belgian yeasts and specialty grains.  Gold Ale, Pale Ale, Stout, Porter, India Pal Ale,  E.S.B. and Cask Conditioned Ale.

Jack of the Wood is a place to meet up with locals, make yourself at home and try one of their famous Green Man Ales, a fine way to sample Asheville beer.
